11:11 has always been special to Susannah. Since she was a little girl, she has always made a wish whenever she sees the time. So when she got engaged in Febuary of 2011, it only made since to set the date on 11-11-11. In May 2011, Susannah and her fiancé attended an open house to check out some possible vendors for their upcoming wedding where she met and instantly connected with Amanda, a newly certified wedding planner. The couple ended up hiring her as the "day-of" planner for their wedding, which also happened to be Amanda's first solo event execution. Throughout the engagement process they became fast friends and Amanda saw natural planning talent in Susannah, and encouraged her to take the wedding planning certification class through Lovegevity Wedding Planning Institute (LWPI). Susannah enrolled in the spring 2012 course and began interning with Amanda and the wedding planner she was currently working for. After working several events together, including a large bridal show, it was very obvious to each other and those around them, that they were a remarkable team. In June 2012, Susannah and Amanda decided to further their desires to go into business together. Without 11:11, the two girls would never have met, so it was obvious what to name their business, which has been a wish granted to them both. In the short time they have been in business, they are already establishing themselves in the Austin wedding and special event industry, including being featured in BRIDES Magazine (Oct 2012). They communicate well, trust the other person and her instincts, work quickly and flawlessly, and their client is always at the center of their focus.
Susannah Mikulin is a 28-year-old Texan native currently living in Austin, TX. She married her husband Mark on 11-11-11 and they happily share their home with their cat, Sir Regal Prince of Darkness and teacup yorkie, Bastian. Susannah earned a BFA in Theatre Education from Texas State University. Susannah worked as a middle school theatre and teen leadership teacher for five years until she followed her passion of producing events and earned her wedding planner certification from the Wedding Planning Institute (WPI) in the spring of 2012. In her spare time, Susannah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing with her pets, going to see live music, and crafting with her friends. Keeping a strong love for theatre alive, Susannah helps produce community and youth theatre when she is not on stage herself. Susannah has been blessed to coordinate weddings that have been featured in BRIDES magazine as well as working events for Austin Fusion Magazine.
"I love the fact that wedding and event planning is so much like theatre! You have lights, sound, hair, make-up, costumes, the whole bit. My favorite part of the process is seeing an inspirational design for an event come to fruition. The collaboration of creativity with vendors is so much fun. I have learned so much from the WPI and the hands-on experience during my internship. My type-A personality mixed with my theatrical background makes me feel like this is exactly what I was meant to do with my life."
Amanda has loved weddings for as long as she can remember. Her very first wedding planning job, at the tender age of 6, was to plan Ken and Barbie's fancy and fabulous wedding. As Amanda outgrew Barbie, she became fascinated with wedding television shows, and movies. She loved to watch the planning process and the glow of happiness radiating from the bride and groom, and wanted to have a hand in delivering a special day to a loving couple with the same happy glow she saw on TV. As Amanda finished high school and began college she was told by many a college advisor to pursue the most "practical" career possible, so she began studying accounting. In July 2009 she moved to Austin, TX. With her computer propped on an unpacked box, she began searching for yet another accounting job. During her search, she stumbled upon the website of a local wedding planner that had a "Planning Like A Pro" workshop geared toward a bride planning her own wedding. She called and asked if she could take the workshop - not as a bride but as someone interested in becoming a wedding planner. As Amanda stepped through the door to the workshop that day, little did she know that she was taking the first step into a series of events that would change her life forever. Immediately following the workshop she registered to take the wedding planning certification class through Lovegevity Wedding Planning Institute (LWPI) at Austin Community College. The certification class opened her mind to the thousands of details, wonderful glamour, and infectious excitement that go into planning a wedding. Amanda has been hooked ever since! Now, 28 and 3 years into her career as a wedding planner, she has had the opportunity to plan events at The Driskill Hotel, Vista on Seward Hill, and Texas Women's Federation Mansion.
"This life as a wedding planner is a real dream come true. I wake up every day with a big smile because I get to earn a living in a career I love and about which I am passionate. I am reminded of that six-year-old dreamer each time I send my glowing bride down the aisle to her real life prince charming. Each time I hear "and you may kiss the bride" I smile and say to myself "and they lived happily ever after"".
